NORFOLK (NNS) -- The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) pulled into its homeport of Norfolk after a week-long underway, Feb. 6.
The ship's crew conducted various training evolutions and flight exercises throughout the underway. A Super Bowl party was also hosted by the ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department.
"This was another successful underway," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) 2nd Class Scott Lehew. "We completed 411 shots with 411 successful traps."
The beginning of the underway coincided with Super Bowl XLIX. A party was organized in hangar bay two by the ship's MWR department and the game was projected onto the inside of the hangar bay door.
"The Super Bowl is one of the bigger events for us and for thousands of Sailors on the ship," said the ship's 'Fun Boss' Joshua Watson. "I don't think there would have been a mutiny if we didn't show it, but I wanted to make sure the crew was happy."
George H.W. Bush is in port after conducting training exercises in the Atlantic.
