JACKSONVILLE, Fla (NNS) -- Prior to the arrival of Hurricane Matthew, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay personnel, with the assistance of the American Red Cross, were encouraged to sign up for the Red Cross Safe and Well Program. By visiting, personnel could register on the website and loved ones would be able to check on their status.

"This is a great way to push information to friends and families that you may not know are looking for you," said Capt. David Culpepper, the installation's commanding officer.

Concerned family and friends can search the list of those who have registered themselves as "safe and well" by clicking on the "Search Registrants" button. The results of a successful search will display a loved one's first name, last name and a brief message.

The website is available to anyone. Whether evacuating to a safe haven or staying behind, it's a simple way to let loved ones know your status.
