Shipyard catapult system overhaul
Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, WA (Apr. 11, 2002) -- Civilian shipyard workers clean out the bottom of a steam driven catapult system on the flight deck of USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), in preparation for extensive renovations. Carl Vinson and her crew are conducting a Planned Incremental Availability (PIA) designed to install new technology and extend the operational capability of the ship.
