NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 18, 2018) Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) salute the American flag at half-mast in honor of former first lady Barbara Bush, who died April 17, 2018 at the age of 92. Bush was ship's sponsor for George Washington, christening the ship on July 21, 1990 and delivering remarks at its commissioning on July 4, 1992. George Washington is undergoing a refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a four-year project performed once during an aircraft carrier's life-cycle that includes refueling of the ship's two nuclear reactors, repairs, upgrades and modernization.
