The Atlantic Ocean (Jun. 28, 2003) -- U.S. Marines assigned to the Second Marine Expeditionary Brigade (2nd MEB) embarked aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) drive a Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) in the ship's well deck to load onto an LCAC from Assault Craft Unit Four (ACU-4). Kearsarge and 2nd MEB are on their way home from a successful deployment. The multi-purpose amphibious assault ship participated in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and provided support to the President of the United States during his summits with the Arab leaders in Egypt and Jordan. Kearsarge was also extended on deployment when directed to prepare for possible support to Operation Shinning Express in Western Africa.
