PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 11, 2018) Actor Woody Harrelson observes flight operations with Sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), Aug. 11, 2018, as aircraft trap, or recover, while returning from a mission. The aircraft carrier operates anywhere in international water, is nearly 90,000 tons, and supports the 4.5 acre floating flight deck and more than 70 advanced naval aircraft. Harrelson was underway on the ship to observe flight and ship operations during research for a movie. John C. Stennis was underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations. Harrelson will portray Adm. Chester Nimitz, the U.S. Pacific Fleet commander in "Midway," a movie opening Veteran's Day weekend. U.S. naval aviators then, just as they do today, possessed the agility, tactical skills and innovative mindset to succeed against any enemy. They are disciplined, critical thinkers who excel in ambiguous environments - like those seen in "Midway." (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Joseph Miller/Released)
