PEARL HARBOR (Sept. 10, 2018) Rear Adm. Brian Fort, commander of Navy Region Hawaii, left, and actor Woody Harrelson discuss the life and career of Adm. Chester Nimitz, the U.S. Pacific Fleet commander during World War II. Harrelson is on Oahu during the filming of the movie "Midway," in which he portrays Nimitz. "Midway" is a representation of the Pacific in the opening months of the war and reflects the extraordinary determination and courage of those who fought in it. The submarine in the background is the "Pearl Harbor Avenger," USS Bowfin (SS 287), a WWII-era Balao-class submarine launched on Dec. 7, 1942. The boat conducted nine patrols in the Pacific during the war and claimed 39 Japanese merchant ships and four enemy warships sunk. "Midway" opens Veteran's Day weekend.
