Constitution Sailors will kick off their participation by presenting the colors at the North Shore Rotary Club, then at the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, the Wisconsin State Fair, the Kiwanis Club and a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game later in the week. Additionally, they will give presentations about the history of 'Old Ironsides' at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee Milwaukee-Lavarnway Clubhouse, YMCA Day Camp, the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, the Kiwanis Club, Discovery World and at a Young Professionals Bike Night at the Harley Davidson Museum.
"Navy Weeks represent a tremendous opportunity for our Sailors to engage with thousands of Americans across the country generating support for the Navy's mission," said Nathaniel R. Shick, 75th Commanding Officer of USS Constitution. "It gives them an opportunity to take what they've learned at Constitution and share that history and enthusiasm with the rest of the country."
This is the ninth Navy Week Constitution Sailors participated in this year. They participated in met with citizens in San Antonio and Waco, Texas, Birmingham, Ala., Tampa, Fla., Chattanooga, Tenn., Reno, Nev., Sacramento, Calif. and Fargo, N.D.
Constitution, America's Ship of State, actively defended sea lanes against global threats from 1797-1855. The World's Oldest Commissioned Warship Afloat, Constitution embodies 220 years of maritime heritage and unwavering service to her country. Now a featured destination on Boston's Freedom Trail, Constitution and her crew of active duty U.S. Navy Sailors offer community outreach and education about the ship's history and the importance of naval sea power to more than 500,000 visitors each year. Constitution is berthed at Pier One in Charlestown Navy Yard.
