Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Far East awarded a $10.5 million contract to renovate a bachelor's enlisted quarters (BEQ) at Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, July 13.
The project, managed by NAVFAC Far East's Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division (FEAD) Camp Butler, will replace and upgrade architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil and structural systems of Building 1210.
"Award of this construction effort will provide our Marines with an updated, comfortable and safe facility, improving morale and ensuring safe billeting of our Marine forces such that they are able to more fully execute their mission," said FEAD Director Lt. Cmdr. Luke Cowley.
This will be the first renovation for the BEQ since it was built 14 years ago. The project will meet critical needs, such as upgrading to current safety and fire codes and replacing mechanical systems which have exceeded their service life.
The $10.5 million contract was awarded to Oshiro Gumi CO., LTD of Okinawa. Construction is scheduled to be completed October 2017.
