Rear Adm. Soderberg is a 1965 graduate of Minot State University in North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He subsequently received Master’s degrees from the University of North Dakota, and The Naval Post Graduate School in Financial Management. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the Advanced Management Program at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. He completed the Navy Acquisition and Contracting Officer curriculum and was selected as a member of the Acquisition Professional Community.
Soderberg acquired extensive background in supporting the Navy fleet through a wide range of afloat, shore based and joint assignments. He completed ship’s company sea duty assignments as supply officer of USS Hassayampa (AO-145) in support of the Vietnam War; stock control officer onboard USS Mars (AFS-1); and supply officer of USS America (CV-66).
Soderberg’s shore duty assignments include assistant budget and resource management officer at the Naval Aviation School’s Command, Pensacola, Florida; acquisition/contracting officer at the Naval Electronics System Command, Washington, District of Columbia; customer service/outfitting officer at the Naval Supply Center, Oakland, California in support of Western Pacific supply operations and outfitting the new FFG class ships constructed in Seattle, Washington; director of the Management Center and executive assistant to the Chief of the Supply Corps and commander of Naval Supply Systems Command, Washington, District of Columbia; Sea & Overseas detailer for Supply Corps Officer Personnel; director of Systems Development and comptroller at the Aviation Supply Office, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; assistant chief of staff for Supply on the Staff of Commander, Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk, Virginia; deputy director for Material Management at Joint Logistics Systems Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; commanding officer of Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Norfolk, Virginia; commanding officer of the Navy Exchange Service Command, Virginia Beach, Virginia; and his final tour as director, Fleet Ordnance and Supply Officer on the Staff of Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia in 2002.
Soderberg’s military awards include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit (four awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards); Navy Achievement Medal and various other campaign ribbons. He is a qualified naval aviation supply officer, acquisition professional, and Logistics Management IT specialist.
