Rear Admiral David Walt

Rear Adm. David Walt is native of Dallas, Texas and a 1993 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin.  He also holds a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College and a Master’s degree in Organizational Management from The George Washington University (GWU).

Operationally, he commanded Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific and the forward deployed Warlords of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Five One (HSL-51) flying the MH-60R and SH-60B Seahawk.  Previous operational assignments include HSL-42, where he served as squadron maintenance officer and deployed with USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58) as detachment officer-in-charge. Serving with HSL-48 he deployed with USS Taylor (FFG 50) and USS McInerney (FFG 8).  His initial sea tour was as a surface warfare officer on USS YORKTOWN (CG 48) where he deployed with NATO Standing Naval Forces Atlantic.

Walt’s last staff assignment was as director of operations (FMB1) for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller).  Previous shore assignments include: director, Congressional Appropriations Matters Office (FMBE) on the staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (FM&C); operations analyst and executive assistant for CNO’s Assessment Division (OPNAV N81), and as a strategy officer on the staff of U.S. European Command’s Strategy, Policy, and Assessments Directorate (EUCOM J5).

He assumed his role as deputy director for Resources and Acquisitions, Joint Staff, J8 in April 2022.
