Rear Admiral Justin A. Kubu

Rear Adm. Justin Kubu, is from Anderson, SC, graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and was commissioned through the Naval ROTC Program in 1995. He earned a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Post Graduate School and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.

Kubu’s sea duty assignments include a division officer tour aboard USS Cole (DDG 67) and department head tour aboard USS Lassen (DDG 82). He commanded USS Chafee (DDG 90), USS Princeton (CG 59) and Amphibious Squadron Seven.

His staff assignments include the CNO Staff as campaign analyst in Assessments Division (N81), warfighting capabilities analyst in the Force Structure, Resources and Assessment Directorate (J8) of the Joint Staff, Director for Fleet Training (N72) at Surface Warfare Schools Command in Newport, Rhode Island, executive assistant to Commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center and Director for Operations/N3 on the staff of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

As Flag Officer, he served as deputy commander, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa and Unmanned Task Force for Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific. Most recently reported as commander, Carrier Strike Group FIFTEEN in August 2025.

His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and various other personal, unit and service awards.
