Rear Adm. Marcos Jasso was raised in Tucson, Arizona, and took the Oath of Enlistment at the age of 17. He began his naval career as an enlisted Sailor, quickly earning his submarine warfare qualification and advancing to first class petty officer as a Sonar Technician Submarines (STS1(SS)). In 1997, he was selected for the legacy Seaman-to-Admiral Program by then-Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jeremy Boorda, and received his commission through Officer Candidate School at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida.

Jasso’s operational command assignments include Commanding Officer of the “Black Aces” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 41 and Commander, Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW-3), the “Battle Axe” Air Wing. He also served in Fighter Squadron (VF) 41, flying the F-14A Tomcat, and in Strike Fighter Squadrons VFA-22 “Fighting Redcocks” and VFA-154 “Black Knights.” During these assignments, he completed multiple deployments aboard USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74), and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), supporting Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Inherent Resolve, Freedom’s Sentinel, and numerous Western Pacific security and presence missions. Under his leadership, Carrier Air Wing THREE and the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Strike Group earned the Commander, Naval Air Forces (CNAF) Ramage Award, recognizing the Fleet’s top carrier strike group combat team.

His shore assignments include instructor duty with VFA-122 “Flying Eagles,” operational flight test engineer with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 9 “Vampires” Detachment Nellis Air Force Base, and graduate studies at the Naval War College. His staff assignments include the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), where he qualified as a Navy Space Cadre officer; the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N98), where he served as the Hornet Requirements Officer and Special Programs Branch Head for the Air Warfare Division; and Director of Operations (N3) for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet. In his first flag officer assignment, Rear Adm. Jasso served as Deputy Director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy (J5) at U.S. Space Command.

Throughout his career, Jasso has served alongside exceptional Sailors earning numerous personal and leadership awards. His recognitions include the William J. Dey Junior Officer Leadership Award, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Instructor of the Year, the Adm. Wesley L. McDonald Leadership Award for Strike Fighter Wing Pacific, the National Reconnaissance Office, Mission Integration Directorate’s Field Grade Officer of the Year Award, and the Commander, Naval Air Forces Navy and Marine Corps Association Peer Leadership Award on multiple occasions. Finally, in 2021, he was named Tailhooker of the Year by the Tailhook Association.

Jasso is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

Jasso assumed command of Carrier Strike Group NINE, embarked on USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), in June 2026.
