Rear Admiral Michael L. Freidberg

Rear Adm. Michael Freidberg is a native of Weston, MA. He is a 1988 graduate of Dartmouth College and holds an M.Phil from Cambridge University and a Master of  Public Affairs from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs. He received a direct commission as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve in March, 1993.

He mobilized in 2002, serving as a counter-terrorism analyst in the Office of Naval Intelligence Maritime Target Development Division, and then as liaison to the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Joint Intelligence Task Force – Combating Terrorism. In 2012, he mobilized to Afghanistan to serve as Chief Staff Officer, Special Operations Task Force Southeast, serving with SEAL Teams TWO and FOUR.

His shore assignments include the Naval Criminal Investigative Service; Commander, Striking Fleet Atlantic/US 2nd Fleet; the Office of Naval Intelligence, Special Operations Command Joint Forces Command, and serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, Strategic Plans (N5) for Commander, Naval Information Force Reserve.

His command assignments include reserve units supporting SEAL Team 18; Chief of Naval Operations (Intelligence); Joint Intelligence Center Central Command; Commander, US 6th Fleet; and Commander, US 10th Fleet/Fleet Cyber Command. In February 2022, he assumed command of Naval Information Force Reserve Region Southeast, and in October 2023, he became the plank-owning first commanding officer of Naval Information Force Reserve Readiness Center Jacksonville, an Echelon IV command under the Navy’s reserve Information Warfare Type Command.

As a Flag Officer, he is on orders to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (OPNAV N2N6).

Rear Adm. Freidberg is qualified in Information Warfare. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
