Rear Adm. Hendrix, a native of Savannah, Georgia, graduated from Savannah State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Howard University. He entered the Navy through the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program and earned his commission in 1993 upon graduating from Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and became a Surface Warfare Officer.
Rear Adm. Hendrix currently serves as Deputy Commander of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC). Prior to this assignment, he served as Deputy Commander for Maritime Expeditionary Security Group Two (MESG 2) in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Before affiliating with the Navy Reserve (NR) in 2000, his active-duty assignments include service aboard USS O’Bannon (DD-987) as communications officer, auxiliary officer, and assistant chief engineer. He also served as an action officer at Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Installations and Logistics (OPNAV N4) in Washington, D.C. As a reservist, Rear Adm. Hendrix’s assignments include serving as the executive officer of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station (NCTAMS) European and Central Detachment “O” in Atlanta, Georgia, and commanding officer of NR Commander, Destroyer Squadron 22 Detachment Bravo (CDS-22) and Inshore Boat Unit 27 (IBU-27). He was later selected as the first commanding officer of Maritime Expeditionary Boat Division 102 under the newly established NECC. He also commanded NR U.S. Central Command Individual Mobilization Augmentee Detachment supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
In 2010, Hendrix mobilized as the engagement planner for Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), directing theater security cooperation across 13 East African countries. Following his mobilization, he served as a company commander in Coastal Riverine Squadron 10 in Jacksonville, Fla. His recent command tours include serving as the commanding officer for Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) Headquarters and NR Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG-3).
Rear Adm. Hendrix’s awards include various personal and campaign medals including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal. He also served with units awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation Award and Battle “E” ribbons.
