Rear Admiral Charles R. “Chase” Sargeant

Rear Adm. Sargeant is a native of Lakeland, Florida.  He was commissioned from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York, in 1996 with a degree in Marine Transportation.  He also holds a Master of Science degree in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas.

Rear Adm. Sargeant’s at-sea assignments include USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) as the Main Propulsion Officer, USS Chosin (CG 65) as the Assistant Operations Officer, USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) as Operations Officer, and USS Lake Erie (CG 70) as Operations Officer.  He commanded USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) and Destroyer Squadron Fifteen (CDS 15), both in the Forward Deployed Naval Forces, Yokosuka, Japan.  As CDS15, he was assigned Commander, Task Force 71 (CTF 71), Theater Surface Warfare Commander for U.S. Seventh Fleet, and Sea Combat Commander for Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, operating extensively in the Indo-Pacific region.

Ashore, Rear Adm. Sargeant served in the Navy Personnel Command (PERS 41) in Surface Warfare Assignments, in a Global War on Terror Support Assignment to U.S. Central Command Operations Directorate (J3), as an action officer for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans and Strategy (N3/N5), as a National Security Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School as part of the Navy’s Federal Executive Fellowship program, as Division Chief for China-Taiwan-Mongolia, Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate (J5), Joint Chiefs of Staff, and as the Executive Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations.

Rear Adm. Sargeant currently serves as the Deputy director, Joint Interagency Task Force South / Commander, Task Group 4.1 comprised of U.S. and multi-national air and maritime forces conducting the counter illicit trafficking mission in the SOUTHCOM AOR.

Personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various service and campaign awards. He is also a recipient of the Japan Defense Cooperation Medal.
