Rear Admiral Sharif H. Calfee, a native of Toms River, New Jersey, graduated and commissioned in 1996 from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2003 with a Master of Science in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence concentration). He graduated from Princeton University – School of Public & International Affairs with a Master’s Degree in Public Policy (International Relations).
His sea duty assignments include: USS Elrod (FFG 55), USS Gettysburg (CG 64), USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) and executive officer aboard USS McCampbell (DDG 85). As commanding officer of USS McCampbell (DDG 85), assigned to the Forward Deployed Naval Force (FDNF) in Yokosuka, Japan, he deployed within the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) area of responsibility (AOR) numerous times. During his tour as commanding officer, USS Shiloh (CG 67), also assigned to the FDNF in Japan, he deployed three times within the INDOPACOM AOR and once to the Central Command (CENTCOM) AOR, with the Shiloh crew earning the Battle Efficiency “E” and Unit Tactical Excellence awards for calendar year 2021.
His shore tours include service at the Navy Personnel Command (PERS-41); on the Joint Staff in the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5); as executive assistant to the Commander, Naval Surface Forces/Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Navy fellow in the Federal Executive Fellowship program at the nonpartisan national security policy research institute Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments in Washington, D.C.; and deputy director, Navy Plans, Policy and Integration (OPNAV N5) on the Navy Staff.
