Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) John Perryman, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1994 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. Following boot camp, he attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School as well as Electronics Technician “A” and “C” Schools in Groton, Connecticut.
His sea tours as a Submarine Electronics Technician include assignments aboard USS Bremerton (SSN 698), USS Dolphin (AGSS 555), and USS Cheyenne (SSN 773). His shore assignments include duty with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and on the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron Seven.
In June 2010, he was selected as Chief of the Boat, and reported to his first COB tour aboard the USS Hawaii (SSN 776). He subsequently served in senior enlisted leadership positions including: the staff of Commander, Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet as Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team Chief of the Boat, Command Master Chief, Commander, Submarine Group Seven, Force Master Chief, Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic, Command Senior Enlisted Leader, United States Strategic Command, and Fleet Master Chief, Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command.
MCPON Perryman is authorized to wear numerous personal decorations, but he is most proud of the six Battle “E” awards and multiple unit commendations he earned alongside his shipmates.
He assumed the duties of the 17th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy on September 8, 2025.
