Rear Admiral Jereal E. Dorsey

Rear Admiral Jereal Dorsey received his commission through the Naval ROTC program at North Carolina State University after earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications in December 1999. He also holds advanced degrees in Mass Communications and Media Studies from San Diego State University and in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.

He earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation during his initial tour aboard USS Saipan (LHA 2) shortly after completing a deployment to the U.S. Navy’s 6th Fleet area of operations. RDML Dorsey then applied for lateral transfer and was accepted into the Public Affairs Officer community.

He has successfully completed staff PAO tours at Commander, Task Force-76/Amphibious Group One/Amphibious Forces 7th Fleet in Sasebo, Japan; Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC); Expeditionary Strike Group Three/Task Force 158; U.S. Joint Forces Command (JFCOM); USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); Commander, Naval Surface Forces Atlantic; and on the staff of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He has also served as the Officer in Charge of Navy Public Affairs Element-East, the Assistant Chief of Information (ACI) for Media Operations and Plans in the Navy’s Office of the Chief of Information (CHINFO), the Special Assistant for Public Affairs/Director of Strategic Communication for the Secretary of the Navy, and the Special Assistant for the Public Affairs to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director of Public Affairs for the Joint Staff.

RDML Dorsey currently serves as the Director, Information Operations and Decision Support Cell, N39 on the OPNAV staff. RDML Dorsey is a Joint Qualified Officer and has earned his Accreditation in Public Relations + Military Communication (APR+M) from the Public Relations Society of America and Universal Accreditation Board. He has attended the Senior Executives in National and International Security course at the Harvard Kennedy School, the Strategic Communications and Public Relations Program at the International School of Communication in London, the Navy Senior Leader Seminar at Naval Post Graduate School, and the Joint Senior Public Affairs Officer Course at DINFOS.
