Rear Admiral Suzanne J. M. Krauss

Rear Adm. Suzanne Krauss was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Brunswick, Maine. She graduated from Boston University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations and a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy.  She holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Krauss was designated a Naval Aviator in 1997. 

Her initial sea duty assignment was to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron TWO (HC-2) in Norfolk, VA where she flew the UH-3H and VH-3A.  She deployed as a helicopter aircraft commander with the “Desert Ducks” to Bahrain and with the “Ghost Riders” to Naples, Italy. Her next assignment was flying the UH-1N with the Search and Rescue unit at Naval Air Station Brunswick. She affiliated with the Navy Reserve in 2004. 

Her reserve staff assignments include Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Patrol Squadron NINE TWO (VP-92), and NATO Allied Command Transformation Detachment Norfolk. She served on active duty as Commander SIXTH Fleet air planner for Ukraine crisis operations. 

Her reserve operational tours include flying C-130Ts with Fleet Logistics Support Squadron SIX TWO (VR-62) and mobilized flying MQ-9 Reapers for the Trident Reach combat demonstration in support of Irregular Warfare in Africa. She served as officer-in-charge and mission commander of the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Pre-Establishment Unit and subsequently Fixed Wing Unmanned Patrol Squadron ONE NINE (VUP-19) Det Patuxent River.

Her reserve command tours include Naval Support Activity Rota 0169/0269, Commander Naval Air Force United States Pacific Fleet Support Unit, and the Commander SIXTH Fleet Major Command Headquarters unit and enterprise. Krauss was mobilized for active duty and served as installation commanding officer of Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, in 2023-2024.

Her military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit awards. She is designated as a Joint Qualification Level III officer and accumulated approximately 1600 flight hours in military aircraft.
