Rear Admiral Frank J. Brajevic

A native of San Pedro, California, Rear Admiral Frank J. Brajevic earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine in 1986, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Dentistry in 1990. He completed postdoctoral training in Advanced Prosthodontics at the Medical College of Georgia in 1992 and Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1993. Directly commissioned into the Navy Reserve Dental Corps in 2000, he is also a 2025 distinguished graduate of the Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff College Distance Education Program. 

Brajevic’s operational tours with the 4th Dental Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, spanned from 2004 to 2012 and included assignments as officer in charge, company executive officer, command training officer, and command operations officer (S-3). He served as acting commanding officer of the 4th Dental Company from May to November 2009. His operational experience includes participation in domestic joint exercises and multinational deployments to Sahara (2009) and Sub-Saharan Africa (2012). 

Fleet support and ashore assignments began at Navy Medical Center San Diego, Detachment D, from 2001 to 2004, where he served as department head and public affairs officer. From 2012 to 2014, he subsequently held positions as executive officer, senior dental executive, and senior medical executive with Operational Health Support Unit Camp Pendleton. As executive officer, he spearheaded the command’s transition from an Operational Health Support Unit to an Expeditionary Medical Facility platform. He then served as executive officer of Operational Health Support Unit Bremerton from 2014 to 2016 before commanding the unit from 2016 to 2019. 

In his senior assignments, Brajevic served as deputy chief of staff, Naval Medical Forces Support Command from 2019 to 2022. He returned to the 4th Dental Battalion from 2022 to 2023 as a Dental Readiness Support Team Coordinator and Innovation Officer. In August 2023, he was appointed to chief of staff, Naval Medical Forces Pacific. Concurrently, he was appointed Prosthodontic Specialty Leader for the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery from 2022 to 2025. 

Brajevic’s civilian career includes service as Lead Dentist and Assistant Director of the Advanced Graduate Prosthodontics Program at the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System from 1996 to 2024. He has also held a faculty position in the Department of Advanced Prosthodontics, Biomaterials & Hospital Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry from 1997 to 2023 and has authored several scientific research articles. 

His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit Medal (two awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards. His commands also earned the Rear Admiral Vaughn Memorial Award for Outstanding Naval Reserve Dental Unit in both 2007 and 2009.
