Rear Admiral Michael S. Carl

Rear Adm. Michael Carl, a native of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Carlow College in 1997 and was commissioned an ensign through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, in 1998. He earned a Master’s of Business Administration from George Washington University in 2004. He is also a 2009 graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College and attended the Executive Leadership Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

His operational assignments include disbursing and sales officer, USS Carter Hall (LSD 50); supply officer, USS Princeton (CG 59); principal assistant for logistics, principal assistant for services, and assistant supply officer, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); and supply officer, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).

Ashore, his assignments include Naval Acquisition Contracting Officer (NACO) intern, Naval Sea Systems Command; replenishment and logistics officer, Commander Task Force Five-Three; aide to the Director and Deputy National Account Manager, Navy, Defense Logistics Agency; military staff assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness; head Program Objective Memorandum (POM) development section head, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, N80; executive officer, Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Director, Logistics Readiness (N4C), U.S. Pacific Fleet; Commanding Officer, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Yokosuka, Japan; Chief of Staff, Director, Logistics Division (N4L), Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; and Executive Assistant, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Installations and Logistics, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (N4).

Rear Adm. Carl is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and is designated a Joint Qualified Officer. He is qualified as a Naval Aviation Supply Corps Officer and Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer.

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, along with various other personal, unit, and service awards. He received the Navy and Marine Association Leadership Award in 2016 while serving as Supply Officer aboard USS Ronald Reagan.
