Rear Admiral Brent Scott

Rear Adm. Brent Scott, a native of Amarillo, Texas, entered active duty in 1992 after twelve years of civilian pastoral ministry.  He is a graduate of West Texas A & M University, and received a Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Masters of Theology from Duke University. Scott is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College where he holds a degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.

Scott’s early assignments include 3rd Marine Air Wing, Yuma, Arizona, where he served 2nd and 1st Light Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalions.  He was then detailed to Naval Station, Rota, Spain, where he supported Marine Security Forces and was the voice of “Chapline”, a daily AFN radio broadcast across Europe.  In his first at-sea tour, Scott was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 7 and deployed with the Eisenhower battle group in combat deployments to the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and the Arabian Gulf. His next assignment took him to Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, where he gained a supervisory role in one of the largest Religious Ministry Teams in the Navy.

In his first senior tour, Scott was assigned as command chaplain to USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) and Commander, Carrier Strike Group 7 during two combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.  He served as deputy fleet chaplain, U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia before being forward deployed as force chaplain U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the fleet chaplain for U.S. 5th Fleet headquartered in the Kingdom of Bahrain, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.

Scott was detailed as fleet chaplain, U.S. Pacific Fleet and command chaplain, U.S. Pacific Command, Honolulu, Hawaii.  There he served in a position of oversight for 500 Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force, and Navy service component Religious Support Teams.
Most recently, Scott was detailed to the Office of the Chief of Navy Chaplains and became the 19th chaplain of the U.S. Marine Corps and deputy chief of Navy chaplains in August 2014.
Scott assumed duties as the 27th Chief of Navy chaplains on July 23, 2018.  He retired from active service on June 1, 2022.

His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (four awards) Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).
