Rear Admiral Thomas Wall

Rear Admiral Thomas Wall is a native of Damascus, Maryland. He is a 1989 graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School, a Master in Defense Studies from Royal Military College, and graduated various programs from the Navy Post Graduate School, Naval War College, Canadian Forces College, and Joint Forces Staff College. He was commissioned at Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island.

He served on active duty as Division Officer onboard USS Cincinnati (SSN 693), completing both North Atlantic and Mediterranean deployments. Later he served as Shift Engineer and Material Officer, Nuclear Propulsion Training Unit (MTS 626), training the Nuclear Fleet, planning and executing maintenance shutdowns, including the first Pier-side Extended Maintenance Availability.

Wall performed staff tours in various submarine and operational related units including, Commander Submarine Force Atlantic Detachment (Det.) 305, Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Det. 208, Commander Submarine Group 10 Det. 108, Pacific Strike Group Operations Det. H, Undersea Warfare Operations Det. L, and Commander U.S. 7th Fleet.

His Command tours include Atlantic Strike Group Operations Det. D, Jacksonville, Florida; Undersea Warfare Operations Det. X, Atlanta, Georgia; and Commander Naval Forces Japan, Headquarters, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mobilizations include Deputy Commander and Chief Staff Officer, Commander Submarine Squadron 16, during first and follow-on deployments of Atlantic SSGNs (USS Florida and USS Georgia); Senior Nuclear Advisor to Commander, United States Forces Japan, during Operation TOMODACHI; and Chief of Staff, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) during Operations AQEA AL QAEDA EAST AFRICA EXORD, OAKEN COAL and SOUTHERN RESPONSE.

Wall’s flag assignments include Deputy Commander Submarine Force Atlantic, Deputy Commander Submarine Force Pacific. He also served as an airborne emergency action officer (AEAO) at U.S. Strategic Command for Operation Looking Glass.

His decorations include Defense Superior Service Award, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various service, expeditionary, unit and campaign awards.
