Rear Admiral Lance Scott

Rear Adm. Lance Scott is a native of Illinois and raised abroad in Germany and Japan.He is a 1991 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, a license as Third Mate, Unlimited Tonnage Ocean Going Vessels, and a commission in the U.S. Navy.Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

Scott was designated a naval flight officer (NFO) in November 1992 and following P-3C training at Naval Air Station Moffett Field, California, began his first flying tour with the Grey Knights of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46. Subsequent operational tours include assistant navigator aboard USS John F Kennedy (CV-67); department head and commanding officer tours with the Golden Eagles of VP-9; and command of Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing Two at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Scott’s shore assignments include flag lieutenant to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Japan; instructor NFO at VP-30 with designation as an Orion Weapons and Tactics instructor (WTI); VP placement officer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel (PERS 43); strategy branch head for the Director, Naval Warfare Integration Group (N00X) in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV); branch chief for Interagency actions on the Joint Staff (J39); Chief of Staff for the Warfare Integration Directorate (N9I) at OPNAV; and executive assistant to the Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

Scott's first flag officer assignment was at U.S. Transportation Command as the global operations center chief from September 2018 to June 2020. He assumed the duties of Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Group on 18 June 2020.
His decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and other various personal, unit, and service awards.
