Rear Adm. Chris Stone is a native of Fort Worth, Texas and a 1994 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He is a distinguished graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
Stone commanded two warships, USS Normandy (CG 60) and USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), leading his commands to earn three Battle Efficiency Awards, two CNO Afloat Safety Awards, the CNO Ship-Helicopter Safety Award and a Retention Excellence Award. Additional sea duty assignments include: USS Princeton (CG 59), USS Valley Forge (CG 50) and USS Stout (DDG 55).
Ashore, he served three tours on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations as vice chief of Naval Operations (VCNO) executive assistant and Commander’s Action Group director; executive assistant to the Director, Surface Warfare (N96) and acting deputy director (N96B); Deputy Fleet Implementation branch head for the Director, Navy Special Programs (OPNAV N9SP); and Surface Warfare Division (OPNAV N76/N86) Area Air Defense section head and Standard Missile Requirements officer. Additional shore assignments include United States Joint Forces Command, Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC) as a member of the Joint Deployable Team, deploying to Afghanistan and serving as the first JECC liaison officer to United States Transportation Command.
Personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, five Battle Efficiency awards, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
Stone’s first assignment as a flag officer was as special assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations. He assumed command of Expeditionary Strike Group Seven, Task Force 76, and Amphibious Force Seventh Fleet in June 2023. In this role, he is responsible for Amphibious, Mine, and Littoral Warfare operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
His most treasured accomplishment is appointment as an honorary Chief Petty Officer by the USS Normandy Chief Petty Officer Mess.
