Rear Admiral Paul Lanzilotta hails from Long Island, New York, and is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He commissioned through the Naval ROTC program and earned his wings of gold as a naval flight officer. He earned a master’s degree in systems engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.
Lanzilotta most recently served as the commanding officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), during which he led the team through the ship’s first deployment, and completion of workups in preparation for its first combat deployment. In addition, under his command, USS Gerald R. Ford completed the first full ship shock trials for a carrier in 34 years after which the ship executed her first planned incremental availability (repair and modernization) at Newport News Shipbuilding.
Assignments at sea include command of USS Arlington (LPD 24), executive officer for USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, commanding officer, Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 120 (VAW-120), and commanding officer, Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 126 (VAW-126). He also served as a junior officer and department head assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 121 (VAW-121), and as flag lieutenant for Commander, Carrier Strike Group Six.

Rear Adm. Lanzilotta reported in May 2023 to U.S. Fleet Forces Command and is serving as director, Fleet Integrated Readiness and Analysis.
He has logged over 2,600 hours in 22 different aircraft. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and various other medals, unit and campaign awards.
