Rear Admiral John Arthur Robinson III

Rear Adm. John A. Robinson is a native of Chicago and is the 12th Vice Chief of Information. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. He also holds Master's degrees from the U.S. Naval War College and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

His command leadership positions include his deployment as the Director of Public Affairs for Joint Task Force Guantanamo; separate assignments as Commanding Officer of the Chief of Information and U.S. Fleet Forces Command Public Affairs Units; Officer in Charge of Navy Expeditionary Combat Camera; and as the Executive Director of two commands, Defense Media Activity and Naval Media Center.

His staff assignments include acting chief of staff to the Vice Chief of Information, and special assistant (Public Affairs) to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Personal military awards include the Legion of Merit, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

Robinson began serving as Vice Navy Chief of Information October 1, 2023 and was promoted to Rear Admiral on January 3, 2024
