Naval Forces Korea Welcomes Congressional Study Group to Busan

Congressional Study Group staff visited Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) headquarters in Busan, March 6.

Staff members from the Congressional Study Group on Korea visited Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) headquarters in Busan, March 6.

The group, which included congressional staff members from Pennsylvania, California, Georgia and Texas, toured the Republic of Korea Navy Base and CNFK headquarters and met with Rear Adm. Michael Boyle, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea.

"The district directors are here to learn more about Korea and the U.S.-Korea relationship, including that with the military," said Sharon Witiw, Director of Community Outreach of the Association of Former Members of Congress. "We specifically came to Busan to meet with local government and see how the Navy cooperates with the Korean Navy."

CNFK is the regional commander for the U.S. Navy in the Republic of Korea (ROK) and provides expertise on naval matters to area military commanders, including the commander for the United Nations Command; the Republic of Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command; and commander, U.S. Forces Korea. CNFK also serves as liaison to the ROK Navy and the Combined Forces commander staff in armistice and in wartime to commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, based in Yokosuka, Japan.
