Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic lifted the emergency evacuation order Sept. 14 for active-duty Navy and civilian personnel, dependents of active-duty service members and Reservists on active duty residing in Virginia Zone A effective Sept. 16. This follows the governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia's notice lifting the order Sept. 14. The effective date of Sept. 16 allows personnel and families enough time to safely travel back home from the safe haven area of 500 miles from Asheville, North Carolina. Personnel and families who evacuated earlier this week should retain any receipts for lodging and meals and should check with their parent command on processing their orders and claims. Costs incurred by an evacuee for travel conducted without authorization are the responsibility of the evacuee. Personnel should use caution when returning home and can check road conditions before they travel by logging on to www.511Virginia.org or calling 511.
