Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven S. Giordano wrapped up his six-day European trip March 31, by touring Naval Support Activity Souda Bay and hosting an all-hands call. Giordano visited various remote commands and spoke to Sailors in the United Kingdom; Rota, Spain; Sigonella, Italy; Naples, Italy; and Souda Bay, Greece. They were afforded the opportunity to voice their questions and concerns in open forums. The topics ranged from uniform matters, Ready Relevant Learning, Sailor 2025, spouse employment and physical readiness. There were also region-specific questions posed regarding overseas housing allowance and isolated duty tours. "These are a great group of Sailors, and they continue to take the challenges they're given and work through them by thinking outside of the box which makes me proud," said Giordano. "The quality of the questions asked at these all hands calls was simply outstanding and it shows me that our Sailors are engaged not only within their commands, but also engaged with the happenings across our great Navy." This was Giordano's first trip to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations since assuming the office of the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy in September 2016. "As I travel the Fleet, I have never been more impressed with the quality of Sailors that we have," said Giordano. "They are simply the best." Giordano has traveled to San Diego; Key West, Florida; Norfolk; Millington, Tennessee; and overseas to Bahrain, Afghanistan and Djibouti, to meet with Sailors. The MCPON serves as the senior enlisted leader of the Navy and as an advisor to the chief of naval operations and chief of naval personnel in matters dealing with enlisted personnel and their families.
