Sailors attending Master-at-Arms (MA) "A" School at Naval Technical Training Center (NTTC) Lackland received on-the-job training at the "Wings over South Texas" air show, April 1-2.

"Working the air show was an amazing and unforgettable experience," said Seaman Brandon A. Bradshaw. "Getting to shadow a fully qualified Master-at-Arms and see what the job consists of gave us a good idea of what our lives will look like once we get to the fleet."

80 Sailors volunteered their weekend to work the Blue Angels air show and receive practical hands-on training in various portions of the MA rating.

"At the air show, we gained experience with procedures like guard mount, crowd control, traffic control and personnel and baggage inspections," said Seaman Taylor N. James. "At one point on Saturday, there was a lost child and we had to do an area sweep on the flight deck. It was exciting and rewarding when the child was found safe 10 minutes later."

"The Air Show was a great opportunity for the students to see what it's like to work a public relations event as well as conduct security operations," said Senior Chief Michael L. Rosenthal, MA "A" school instructor. "This event was made possible by the motivation and training the students received at NTTC Lackland."

"Wings over South Texas" air show was headlined by the Blue Angels flight demonstration team. The Blue Angels were formed in 1946 to keep public interest after WWII by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Chester W. Nimitz. Since its creation, the Blue Angels have performed for nearly 500 million fans.

Other military performers included the U.S. Army's Golden Knights, U. S. Air Force's F-16 Falcon, U.S. Marine Corps' MV-22 Osprey, the U.S. Coast Guard's MH-65 Dolphin; a HC-144 Ocean Sentry search and rescue demonstration, and the U.S. Navy's P-8 Poseidon.

The Center for Security Forces provides specialized training to more than 23,000 students each year. It has 14 training locations across the United States and around the world where training breeds confidence.
