More than 1,000 Sailors assigned to Coastal Riverine Group Two (CRG 2) headquarters completed their relocation from Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Dec. 18.

The move to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek has been a transition for everyone from the commodore to the newest Sailors reporting to the command.

Capt. Michael Sparks, commander, CRG 2, reflected on how this transition serves to consolidate all of the East Coast active CRF components into one location.

"We are very happy to have finally executed our move from Norfolk Naval Shipyard to Joint Expeditionary Little Creek," said Sparks. "This move has been long-awaited and our Sailors will now get to enjoy all that this base has to offer. Additionally, this move consolidates all Coastal Riverine Squadrons and our Training and Evaluation Unit, which will afford a lot of efficiencies in training and support as we prepare the squadrons to deploy."

CRG 2 was created from the merger of Riverine Group Two and Maritime Expeditionary Group Two in 2012 to better align Navy Expeditionary Combat Command forces.

Sparks added that the entire process has been an excellent opportunity for Sailors assigned to CRG 2 who will no doubt continue in the greatness and efficiency for which it has become known in such a short period of time.

The Coastal Riverine Force (CRF) operates in harbors, rivers, bays, across the littorals and ashore. The primary mission of CRF is to conduct maritime security operations across all phases of military operations by defending high value assets, critical maritime infrastructure, ports and harbors both inland and on coastal waterways against enemies and, when commanded, conduct offensive combat operations.
