Sailors assigned to USS Constitution will participate in Navy Week Tampa, Fla., May 7-12.

Constitution Sailors will give presentations about the history of the ship at Dunbar Elementary School, Rampello Elementary School, Lockhart Magnet School, Shore Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary Magnet School and Riverhills Elementary School.

Additionally, Constitution Sailors will perform color guard details at a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game as well as at the opening ceremony of a public concert at Robinson High School. They are also scheduled to participate in a Navy Day at the Florida Aquarium.

"Bringing the history of Constitution and the Navy to the people of the United States is one of our primary missions," said Command Master Chief Ryan J. Gray, Constitution's command master chief. "It gives people the opportunity to not only hear about the history of 'Old Ironsides', but also to meet and interact with Sailors from their Navy."

Lastly, Constitution Sailors will perform a color guard at the opening ceremony of the Macdill Air Fest.

This is the fourth Navy Week that Constitution Sailors will participate in this year. They participated in similar activities in San Antonio, Waco, Texas, and Birmingham, Alabama.

The primary purpose of the Navy Week program is to increase Navy awareness by presenting the Navy to Americans who live in cities that normally do not have a significant naval presence. Tampa Navy Week will showcase the mission, capabilities and achievements of the Navy and provide residents the opportunity to meet Sailors firsthand.

Now a featured destination on Boston's Freedom Trail, Constitution and her crew of active duty Navy Sailors offer community outreach and education about the ship's history and the importance of naval sea power to more than 500,000 visitors each year. Constitution is berthed at Pier One in Charlestown Navy Yard.
