Nuclear Machinist Mate 1st Class Brian Vandeventer, Navy recruiter at Toms River, New Jersey, is slated to receive $100,000 for staying in the Navy as part of the Selective Reenlistment Bonus program.
Nuclear Machinist Mate 1st Class Brian Vandeventer, Navy recruiter at Toms River, New Jersey, is slated to receive $100,000 for staying in the Navy as part of the Selective Reenlistment Bonus program.

Vandeventer explained that there were several factors that went into his decision to reenlist beside the bonus, including his current high job satisfaction, future plans for real estate investment while in the Navy and retirement.

"I was looking at how I was going to set myself up for the rest of my life," said Vandeventer.

Although the bonus was a factor in reenlisting, Vandeventer said he loves his job and the camaraderie of submariners. "I actually love doing my job as a mechanic and I love my fellow sailors on the subs I have worked on."

Vandeventer was selected for recruiting duty after extensive time at sea. His time as a recruiter has reminded him of the unique value of his career in the Navy.

"Being in recruiting has renewed the fire I have for the Navy," he said.

Participants in Vandeventer's reenlistment ceremony braved last week's snow storms to make it to the occasion. At Navy Recruiting Station Toms River, Vandeventer is currently part of the nation's top performing large recruiting station.

"At the point of my career I am extremely grateful for what the Navy has provided and what the years to come have in store for me," said Vandeventer.
