During an awards ceremony on October 20, Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Commanding Officer Capt. Frank Castellano, announced that the Council on Occupational Education (COE) has awarded full accreditation to the domain for another six years

COE, a nationally recognized accrediting agency, is a nonprofit voluntary membership organization serving postsecondary education and training institutions, centers, and similar entities, interested in the improvement of the workforce. There are typically 10 applicable standards that organizations must meet in order to be accredited through COE. Their program assessment covered training throughout the CSCS domain, which trains more than 37,000 students annually at 14 learning sites and detachments located throughout the continental United States, Hawaii, and Japan.

"CSCS is in compliance with all ten of COE's standards with zero deficiencies," said Castellano. "Because of your diligence and hard work this past April, the COE Assessment Team awarded you with a Letter of Commendation, which describes CSCS as 'highly motivated and always willing to go the extra mile to provide high quality education and training to the surface warfare community.' I could not agree more and thank you all for working together to achieve this outstanding outcome."

During their week assessment, the COE Assessment Team reviewed all self-study documents, interviewed staff and students, and observed training.

"CSCS worked tirelessly over the past year to develop an updated self-study and address the required standards," explained Jeff Vinneau, CSCS' COE Accreditation liaison officer. "These efforts involved all departments and learning sites and detachments in our domain. The end result clearly illustrates that CSCS is accomplishing its mission and providing the fleet with Sailors trained in the skills and abilities to defend our waters."

CSCS' mission is to develop and deliver surface ship combat systems training to achieve surface warfare superiority. CSCS headquarters' staff oversees 14 learning sites and detachments, located throughout the continental United States, Hawaii, and Japan and manages and operates a Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) training division in Rota, Spain. CSCS provides over 538 courses, awards 114 different Navy Enlisted Classifications (NECs), and trains more than 37,000 Sailors a year. CSCS delivers specialized training for Officer and Enlisted Sailors required to tactically operate, maintain, and employ shipboard and shore-based weapons, sensors, and command and control systems utilized in today's Navy.
