Personnel assigned to Littoral Combat Ship Squadron 2 (COMLCSRON 2) celebrated the command's third birthday at the squadron's headquarters on Naval Station Mayport, Nov. 7.

Established Nov. 7, 2014, COMLSCRON 2 has grown from mere building blocks, to a staff of more than 700 personnel supporting two commissioned ships, cementing its role as the staff command for all East Coast littoral combat ships (LCS).

Earlier this year, Capt. Shawn Johnston assumed command of the squadron.

"LCS Squadron 2 has experienced major growth in the last three years, not only in size, but in program development as well. Recent changes such as implementing the blue/gold crew rotation and merging the crews with their detachments have fostered a greater sense of ownership and connection between crews and their ships," said Johnston. "I look forward to continuing on this pattern of improvement to ensure LCS carries on the theme of maritime superiority when we are called upon for service."

Chief Gunner's Mate Daniel Simmons, of COMLCSRON 2's weapons department (N64), was identified as the longest standing member of the command, and has been a part of COMLCSRON 2 since before the staff building was built.

The future USS Little Rock (LCS 9) is scheduled to commission in Buffalo, New York in December, and will soon be the newest addition to the Mayport LCS community. The LCS program continues to see major progress in Mayport as more ships commission and are integrated into the fleet.

Since its establishment in 2014, COMLCSRON 2 continues to support all East Coast littoral combat ships and crews.
