USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) welcomed family and friends aboard the ship to join Sailors in a holiday feast Dec. 25.

"This is a great and wonderful thing that the Navy and Truman are doing for all of us," said Carlos Garcia, a guest aboard Truman. "Sailors don't always get to be with their families on the holidays so it's really special that we're allowed to come to the ship and be with our [Sailor]."

Nearly 400 guests joined Truman Sailors on the mess decks for the meal prepared by the ship's culinary specialists.

"It's a privilege to provide this meal for those who aren't able to be home for the holidays," said Culinary Specialist 1st Class Dustin Saville. "By preparing these meals for the Sailors, we're able to give them a taste of home."

Truman's supply department provided more than 1,025 pounds of food for the meal to include; 200 pounds of ham, 175 pounds of turkey, 175 pounds of prime rib, 90 pounds of shrimp and 80 pounds of crab with additional sides and desserts.

Truman is currently moored at Naval Station Norfolk preparing for the ship's composite-unit training exercise. For more news from USS Harry S. Truman, visit http://www.facebook.com/usstruman.
