U.S. Navy, Marine Corps (USMC) and Coast Guard service members, New York City Fire Department members and other first-responders will participate in the annual Fleet Week Freedom Run in Manhattan, Sunday, May 28.

The 1.7 mile run is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., as runners traverse the course from North Cove Marina through the Financial District to the 9/11 Memorial plaza.

The event will culminate with a moment of silence on the plaza to honor and remember the nearly 3,000 people who died in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people who died in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.

Following the run, the USMC Battle Color Det. will perform on the plaza near the memorial's twin reflecting pools, which sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood.
