This week, the Navy's top personnel officer is visiting Navy recruiters in Portland, Oregon, as well as Sailors assigned to Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) in Washington.

While in Portland, Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. Robert Burke and Fleet Master Chief Russell Smith will visit the Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Portland, previously referred to as the Navy Recruiting District Portland.

In Washington, they will meet with approximately 2,000 Sailors assigned to NBK-Bangor and NBK-Bremerton to discuss Sailor 2025 and other personnel initiatives.

"There is a lot going on in the personnel world, and it's really important to me that we meet with Sailors to listen to their concerns and also help explain some of the Navy's recent personnel announcements and initiatives," said Burke. "Sailors are our asymmetric advantage in an increasingly complex world and we're working hard to ensure that we access, train and develop them the best way possible."

This trip marks Burke's first visit to the Pacific Northwest as CNP.

Burke and Smith are specifically meeting with Navy recruiters in Portland to see the NTAG first-hand, which was formally established April 1, 2017.

Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) is in the process of transforming and restructuring Navy Recruiting Districts, which will modernize the way we recruit Sailors and give the Navy a competitive edge in attracting and onboarding individuals to the service. Much of NRC's transformation is being driven by a focus on workforce and customer satisfaction, and will replace labor-intensive manual processes with automated ones to free up more time for recruiters to work on what they do best - attracting talent and getting future Sailors ready for Recruit Training Command.

As the Chief of Naval Personnel, Burke reports to the Chief of Naval Operations on matters of the Navy's manpower readiness. He also serves as the deputy chief of naval operations (Manpower, Personnel, Training, Education / N1) and oversees the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Navy Personnel Command, Naval Education and Training Command, and Navy Recruiting Command.
