On Thursday, Aug. 24 cities along the Gulf Coast of Texas began prepping for Tropical Storm Harvey to make landfall later that day. However, efforts at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville and NAS Corpus Christi began Tuesday, Aug. 22, long before Harvey would make landfall.

Lt. Ryan Dombroski, Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville (NAVSUP FLC J) Kingsville site director, and his team began preparations by doing massive cleanup efforts on base, securing items that could easily become missile hazards. Preventing damage to the fuel farm was a priority as fuel availability would be critical to mission readiness after the storm passed.

Sandbags were filled and used to shore up buildings, limiting potential flooding which could have caused massive amounts of damage to critical infrastructure.

NAVSUP FLCJ Kingsville coordinated the delivery of over 900 meals ready to eat (MRE's) and 152 cases of water, as well as cots, blankets, pillows and other support items to prepare sheltered living for over 60 NAS Kingsville mission essential personnel (MEP) during a prolonged storm.

The addition of 58 unplanned individuals at NAS Kingsville, resulting from NAS Corpus Christi MEPs evacuating to NAS Kingsville as the storm passed Corpus Christi was also seamlessly supported.

NAVSUP FLCJ Kingsville worked with the base fire department and public works to ensure all emergency generators and fire trucks were topped off with diesel fuel in order to fully support casualty assistance and operations in the event of a power loss.

Within two hours of being released from the shelter, the NAVSUP FLCJ Kingsville team was able to inspect and safely resume fuel farm operational support allowing for refueling operations for essential search and rescue efforts.

NAVSUP FLCJ Kingsville had restored all services and was fully mission capable (FMC) on the morning of Aug. 29, enabling NAS Kingsville to become FMC that afternoon, allowing personnel to focus on rescue and recovery operations for other areas in need.
