Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) ordnance information system (OIS) program management will transition from NAVSUP Code N6 to NAVSUP Global Logistics Support (GLS) ammunition department in an organizational realignment effective Oct. 2, 2016.

The realignment will provide clear lines of accountability for OIS, while improving OIS's technical stewardship to its customers.

Cathy Butler, NAVSUP GLS ammunition department's technical director, described OIS's significance. "It is used at both the wholesale and retail levels to manage inventory and all transactional data for the Navy's non-nuclear ordnance."

OIS program management personnel work predominantly in three locations: Mechanicsburg, Norfolk and Yorktown, Va. The OIS program manager will be located in Mechanicsburg.

"The OIS reorganization to NAVSUP GLS ammunition department will create more efficiency in the coordination and distribution of non-nuclear ordnance across the NAVSUP enterprise," said Rear Adm. James McNeal, NAVSUP GLS commander. "This, ultimately, will improve both current and future readiness of the fleet."

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals operating from 105 locations worldwide, providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
