Quick Facts
The high level of interoperability and trust between France and the U.S. has allowed for seamless operations to be conducted with FS Charles de Gaulle and USS Ross.

Providing Operation Inherent Resolve support from this region allows the U.S., along with our NATO allies and regional partners to demonstrate our shared commitment to the region by providing multi-mission capable platforms with strike; ballistic missile defense; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

The U.S. and its allies continue to improve interoperability by working together to conduct the full spectrum of military operations.

Strike group operations from the Mediterranean support the fight against ISIL and demonstrate the multi-mission capability of the aircraft carrier strike group, which includes guided-missile destroyers that are simultaneously operating in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
