Shiloh Completes CMAV in Singapore

15 October 2016

From Lt. j.g. Christopher Dawson, USS Shiloh (CG 67) Public Affairs

The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67) left the port of Sembawang Singapore, Sept. 10.
Shiloh's visit in Singapore completed a Continuous Maintenance Availability period (CMAV), in order to accomplish critical maintenance and relieve pressure from the repair facility back in Yokosuka, Japan.

Commander, Logistics Group Western Pacific (COMLOGWESTPAC) oversaw the repair work on board Shiloh in Singapore.
Cmdr. Fernando Maldonado, the senior Chief of Staff for Maintenance at COMLOGWESTPAC, said Shiloh's availability was unique.

"For this [Shiloh's] CMAV, getting parts, shore power and funding is a big deal," said Maldonado. "To do this availability takes a lot of coordination with Allied forces."

The availability period focused on a large number of smaller jobs to help the repair facilities in Yokosuka.

Despite the large amount of work happening in Sembawang, time was set aside for boosting the crew's morale.

In addition to regular liberty at the end of the workday and during the weekends, time was set aside during the work day for the Shiloh "Captain's Cup" tournament. This event was a friendly competition between departments and divisions in a number of sports games, including basketball, soccer, dodge ball, and weight lifting. Points were accumulated for wins in each sport. Ultimately, it was Operations department that took the trophy.

"Singapore was great," said Engineman 3rd Class Ian Ibrahim, from New York, N.Y., "We got a lot of work done, and took care of the spaces. It was a good time both on and off the ship."

During her time in Singapore, Shiloh hosted a luncheon and guided tour for the Swedish ambassador to Singapore, Mr. Hakan Jevrell, and several members of Sweden's parliament.

Shiloh is on patrol off the coast of Singapore in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
