USS Shiloh Earns 27,000 Dollars Toward MWR

15 October 2016

From Seaman Joshua Mortensen, USS Shiloh (CG 67) Public Affairs

The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67) celebrated the ship's store earning nearly 27,000 dollars to fund Moral, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) events for the crew, Oct. 8.
Seaman Isaiah Smith runs the ship's store and believes the money will greatly benefit the crew.

"MWR will use this money for next time we hit port, so junior Sailors can get discounts for tickets and events," said Smith. "It's great knowing that I'm paying less for a ticket, which I know costs much more. This is from the money we earned."

The total amount earned includes money spent in the ship store as well as the vending machines on the ship.

Ens. Tylon Kim, sales and dispersing officer, says the ship's store offers essential supplies such as uniform items, toiletries, snack food, candy and drinks that Sailors can purchase while on the ship.

"At the end of every accounting period we see how much profit we made from the overall sales and determine how much we can give to MWR," said Kim.

MWR is an organization that provides free and discounted recreation activities for military personnel, their families and other eligible participants. Specifically, Shiloh's MWR funds help pay for various trips and activities for Sailors to enjoy while in port.

Shiloh is on patrol with Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
