Chief Finan's Dignified Remains to Arrive San Diego International Airport

A Hero flight transferring the dignified remains of Chief Petty Officer Jason C. Finan will arrive at the San Diego International Airport Oct. 28.

Finan, who served 13 years on active duty, died Oct. 20 from wounds sustained during an improvised explosive device blast near Ba'shiqah, Iraq. Finan was serving in an advisory capacity to the Iraqi coalition force supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

A procession will be led by the California Highway Patrol as it departs from the San Diego International airport to the Merkley-Mitchell Mortuary at approximately 11 a.m. PST.

A private memorial service will be held for Finan's family Nov. 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coronado, California.

Finan entered the U.S. Navy Aug. 26, 2003, and during his service received 18 awards, which included: Navy Marine Corps Commendation with Combat V, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two), Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon (two), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, NATO Medal Rifle Expert Medal and Pistol Expert Medal.

He obtained the following qualifications during his military career: master explosive ordnance disposal, expeditionary warfare specialist, naval parachutist, enlisted surface warfare specialist and diver and MK-16 and SCUBA supervisor.
