Navy food management experts from around the world met at the Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support (NAVSUP GLS) headquarters to discuss revisions of the Navy Food Management Team (NFMT) curriculum for Navy Knowledge Online and advancement exams, Nov. 15-17.

The three-day panel consisted of 14 senior enlisted experts from around the fleet who met in San Diego for the first-ever, comprehensive curriculum review.

"The NFMT curriculum review was an opportunity for the Navy's food service leadership to come together and provide direct, consolidated input to the professional development and training of our food service personnel," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Peter Ramos, force culinary programs analyst West, NAVSUP GLS Code 42.

Subjects that were covered during the meeting included proper food preparation and storage techniques; clean-up and disposal; and equipment operation and maintenance.

Commands that participated in the event include the NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Centers (FLC) located in Norfolk; Puget Sound, Wash.; San Diego; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Yokosuka, Japan. Subject matter experts from Commander, Navy Installations Command; Commander, Navy Region Southwest; NAVSUP HQ; and NAVSUP GLS also participated.

"This first-ever comprehensive curriculum review plays a big part in what we are trying to teach our NFMT Sailors across the fleet," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Donald Lake of NAVSUP HQ.

"We are asking ourselves, is the current curriculum being taught still relevant, and is it tested in the advancement exams? Ultimately, we want to help our Sailors stay current and ready in their professional development and advancement," said Lake.

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals, operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
