Sailors assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2 and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 2 participated in a static display event at the Military Bowl game in Annapolis, Dec. 27.

Navy Diver 1st Class Michael Smith, from Norfolk, and Navy Diver 3rd Class Cody Greer, from Shreveport, La., both stationed with MDSU 2, along with Ensign Roy Wiggins, from Mount Olive, North Carolina, and stationed with EODMU 2, at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach, provided attendees of the Military Bowl an opportunity to get hands-on with robotics equipment, learn more about the Navy's EOD community, and even try on diving helmets.

"Today's been a great experience," said Greer. "There have been people flooding in, taking pictures, wanting to know about the robots and dive equipment."

The Military Bowl, now in its ninth year, has been held at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis since it was originally organized by the DC Bowl Committee.

"Not a lot of people know about Dive and EOD," said Smith, manning the display, which maintained steady lines throughout the event. "It's good for folks to come out and see a little about what we do."

Hundreds of people were able to get hands-on with equipment before kickoff, trying a hand at driving a robot or putting on the KM37 diving helmet.

"It's been fun explaining the job to members of the American public," said Wiggins. "It's a unique opportunity; I love football and I like talking to people, so today has been great."

U.S. Navy EOD deploys to conduct EOD, mine countermeasure and expeditionary diving and salvage operations for numbered fleet commanders and combatant commanders throughout the world.
