Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Supply Unit One held a change of command ceremony, May 26, at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.

During the ceremony, Cmdr. Albert L. Hornyak relieved Cmdr. Dennis J. Turner as commanding officer of EODESU One.

"The men and women of EODESU One are, hands-down, the finest I've ever had the pleasure of serving with, and the finest the Navy has to offer," said Turner. "Being a commanding officer at EODESU One has been the pinnacle of my career, and I will deeply miss coming to work here, every day."

Turner, native of Overland Park, Kansas, is a graduate of University of Kansas, and earned his commission in the Navy through the Reserve Officer Training Corps Program in 1995.

During Tuner's leadership, EODESU One was awarded the Green "H" award in 2014 and 2015 for excellence in medical support services to more than 1,200 personnel. These are the fourth and fifth consecutive Green "H" awards for EODESU One.

Hornyak, a native of Severna Park, Maryland, was commissioned in the Navy following graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1997. Prior to assuming command, he served as the Director of Navy Food Service, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

"I am humbled to be able to join the ranks of EODESU One and be part of such an incredible organization," said Hornyak. "EODESU One is committed to winning in all circumstances. They have earned this distinction by being a disciplined team of inspiring leaders and tenacious fighters who are masters of their trade."

EODESU One provides logistical support for all west coast EOD and diving salvage units. U.S. Navy EOD is the world's premier combat force for countering explosive hazards and conducting expeditionary diving and salvage.
