Approximately 350 athletes, including members of the British Armed Forces, will compete in archery, cycling, field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and wheelchair basketball. This year the Warrior Games features 40 athletes representing Team Navy.

"I enjoy motivating people to put forth their best effort, leverage teamwork, and accomplish their goals," said Chief Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician Ron Condrey, assigned to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command and team captain for the Navy athletes. "Competing in Warrior Games provides these warriors the opportunity to test their mental and physical abilities."

Condrey, who had never picked up a bow and arrow, began taking lessons in January and is competing in archery, running and cycling.

Archery is just as mental as it is physical. In fact, archery is similar to shooting, which I'm very experienced with, so I plan to apply my shooting principles to this sport." -EODC Ron Condrey

Held annually since 2010, this is the first year Army has hosted the games. The games were overseen by the United States Olympic Committee and held in Colorado with the support of the Department of Defense. In 2015, the DoD took the lead role for organizing the games to better align the event with the games' core mission of playing a vital role in the recovery process for service members and veterans. The first Warrior Games were opened by Britiain's Prince Harry who was later inspired by the event to create the Invictus Games.

The Team Navy athletes were chosen after being tested at the Wounded Warrior Pacific Navy Trials that took place in February in Hawaii.

"Our Navy wounded warriors exhibited tremendous drive, spirit and competition throughout the trials, making this year's team selection extremely difficult," said Megan Haydel, the lead for Navy Wounded Warrior - Safe Harbor Adaptive Sports and Recreation. "We could not be more proud of the efforts that our Sailors and Coast Guardsmen put into the trials. We witnessed firsthand the great strides they have made in their athletic capabilities and have seen the positive effects that adaptive sports can have on their recovery."

The members of the 2016 Team Navy come from a diverse collection of athletes. It brings together service members from around the country, from both the enlisted and officer communities, with incredibly varied backgrounds and skill sets.

After selection, Team Navy members attended a training camp April 8-11 at Naval Base Ventura County, California.
